Sukkah Building Party

A couple of years ago, we recognized that we needed to do a better job of creating a sense of community for the large number of young professional Jews in their 20s/30s who live or work in downtown Boston-- most who are either grad students or into their first jobs as, e.g., lawyers, MGH residents, or working in health/biotech, non-profits, software, the financial community etc.

In 2010, with initial seed funding from CJP, we began a team-building approach between synagogue leadership, a core group of YPs, and our Rabbinic intern from Hebrew College. As a result, we have established a Young Professionals (YP) group, which has been growing rapidly.

The YP group is about socializing and exploring the power of ‘Jewish.’ It’s about creating a fresh path to finding spiritual meaning through community and interactive discussions and engagement -- rather than just being ‘singles-oriented’ or relying heavily on a series of guest speakers lecturing to largely passive audiences.

Our YP events are largely facilitated by our Rabbinic Interns from Hebrew College – most of whom are in the same YP age range.

We have monthly Friday night dinners and Sunday-afternoon get togethers with ‘wine, cheese and hot Jewish topics,’ We have BBQs, as well as dinners and events in our sukkah (FYI, despite our downtown location, we have a very nice enclosed patio area).

Join us for a Friday night dinner and get together with our growing community of YPs who are starting to look to each other as friends and ‘regulars’ -- and who share a l’Chayim at Friday night dinners – or who are developing friendships outside of the shul.

Our new Rabbinic intern for 2011-12 will be George ‘Getzel’ Davis, and he will be exploring other topics and programs to introduce. If you would like to get involved, please stop by at one of our events!

In addition, we will be offering a YP Trial Membership for 2011-12, based on feedback from the Group. At a specially discounted rate of $135 for a single or $250 per couple, this trial membership includes: a seat for the High Holidays, discounted pricing for some dinners and one free ‘Bootcamp’ session. Download our trial membership application form.
